Due to a lack of traffic to this site, we are not going to continue this site. Some of these same resources will now be on either the church blog (blog.emmanuelbaptist.com) or the ekidz family ministry blog (ekidzministry.blogspot.com).

I will prepare for worship...

This weekend I will attend my church’s worship service.
I will prepare for that corporate worship event;
I will not take the moments lightly.I will see it as a precious time to gather with brothers and sisters in Christ.

I will prepare for worship.
I will ask God to prepare my own heart.
I will ask Him to help me hear God’s Word clearly.
I will ask Him to speak to me that I might be changed.

Psalm 7 - 8
John 7:28-53

Devotional based on Psalm 7
A.W. Tozer famously said that whatever comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. When you hear the mention of “God,” what would you say? What image fills your heart and head when you think about who God is? ...So long as sin exists, he feels indignation every day (Psalm 7:11). But at heart — who he is in himself — God is happy. To grasp this truth will work wonders in our souls...

Some Observation Questions for the Psalms  (HERE)

  • Are there repetitions or multiple instances of similar ideas? Do these repetitions make a particular point, or point to the structure of the passage?
  • What images or metaphors does the author use? What do they indicate about God or the other people in the text? What might they indicate about modern readers?

From the Gospel Primer

Obedience Borne of Love

To love God with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength is the greatest commandment in the Law.  If I could simply fulfill this one commandment, I would gladly fulfill all others as a natural matter of course.
So how can I come to love God with all of my being? The Bible teaches that genuine love in my  heart for God is generated by an awareness of His love for me, and nowhere is the love of God more clearly revealed than in the gospel. Therefore, preaching the gospel to myself is a great way to keep God’s amazing love before my eyes, so that I might experience its power to produce in me a passionate love for Him in return. Romanced by His love in this way, my increasingly smitten heart will burn to do His will and will feast itself on doing so.

In your prayers consider Psalm 69:13

But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord.
At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.

David prays to God.
David prays for God to work in God's time.
David prays for God to work in the abundance of God's steadfast love.
David prays to God because he knew God was faithful.

Then in John 4:34 Jesus say "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work."

Our prayers should acknowledge who God is and how He works.  Our prayers should demonstrate an utter dependence on God and not the things of this world.

God, my prayer is to you because you are my peace.
NOT God give me stuff so that I will be happy!

On this National Day of Prayer consider Psalm 34:1 -3 and this quote from Bryan Chapell.  Especially as it relate

"Though Jesus commands us to pray in his name, the reason we do so is not simply to make sure that we get our prayer formula right. Our prayers are not more powerful because we chant our Savior’s name like a magic spell. If we use Jesus’ name as some sort of spiritual incantation, then we fall into the error of the sorcerers in the book of Acts who thought that using Jesus’ name was just another way of saying 'abracadabra' or 'shazam' (see Acts 19: 13– 16). We are not to mimic witches spicing their caldrons with a little eye of newt and tail of squirrel when we add Jesus’ name to our prayers."

Chapell, Bryan (2005-07-01). Praying Backwards: Transform Your Prayer Life by Beginning in Jesus' Name (p. 21). Baker Publishing Group. Kindle Edition.

Each and every day, we need to carefully and prayerfully consider our motives as we pray.
From the beginning of our prayers we need to have Jesus name and glory in mind.
