Two very important things to remember when reading the Bible are
CONTEXT & PRAYER.

CONTEXT is understanding when the passage was written, who it was written to, why it was written.  This helps you understand what God and the human author intended to communicate to the original audience.

PRAYER is essential in Bible study.
Pray before reading.  Pray that God would help you know and apply the message of the passage.
Pray after reading.  Consider how you can pray the passage.  Maybe it is a specific prayer from the passage or maybe it is a prayer related to an attribute of God or an application from the passage.

Here is an example from today's New Testament passage
Luke 21:19  "Stand firm, and you will win life."

In the midst of trouble, help me to remember it is all about YOU not me and my comfort.  Help me to rest in you.  From this passage I know that "winning life" is not what this world thinks of as winning life.  It is not winning the approval of men or the things of this world.  It is eternal life in you.  Help me live with this perspective.

Jeff & Ivana Reiner in Brazil who will be shared with us tonight.

Antonio & Diana Navarette in Mexico.  The Navarretes are on their third term.  Antonio was born and reared in Mexico.  They minister in a local church- Trojes Baptist Church- and in addition Antonio teaches Omega courses in several other churches.  Their children are grown but live with them. They have recently opened a coffee shop where they hope to have a vibrant ministry.

· Pray for Antonio as he teaches Omega Courses in other churches, discipling leaders

· Their church was again robbed and once again they lost their sound system.  They are weary of theft!

· Pray for their coffee shop ministry that it would bear spiritual fruit!

Pray for singles in your church.

Lift them by name.  Pray they would seek and find opportunities to grow in Christ with other believers.  As we pray let us remember two important truths:  Singles and marrieds need to find our identity in Christ.  Marital status isn't correlated with godliness or maturity.
