During the first 3/4 of 2014, this ebcgrow.com website contained weekly Bible reading, memory verses and prayer requests.
Due to a lack of traffic to this site, we are not going to continue this site. Some of these same resources will now be on either the church blog (blog.emmanuelbaptist.com) or the ekidz family ministry blog (ekidzministry.blogspot.com).

Pray for more laborers at Emmanuel (Matt. 9:35 - 38)
Jesus told us to pray that, so be obedient to His command.  You may find you seldom struggle in finding workers when you pray this way.

Pray for laborers and also answer God's call to labor for the Gospel.
The call to prayer is not a call to merely wait for workers.
It is a challenge to serve also.

7 Reasons Why You Should Memorize Scripture

The article is actually entitled "7 Reasons Why Church Leaders Should Memorize Scripture."
But each of the reasons apply to everyone not only church leaders.

To read the entire article click HERE.

These are the reasons.
  1. The Bible is the Word of God.
  2. Jesus modeled for us the power of knowing the Word.
  3. Hiding the Word in our heart helps us to avoid sin.
  4. The Word drives the garbage from our minds.
  5. Memorizing the Word can help prepare us for the mission field.
  6. The day may come when we have little or no access to the Bible.
  7. Memorization review requires daily time with the Word.
The article explains each of these in detail.

A Heart for the Lost from the Gospel Primer

"What effect do such gospel meditations have upon Paul? What emotions do they produce in him besides the obvious joy he feels while reciting them? Paul bares his soul at the very beginning of chapter 9: 'I have great sorrow,' he says, 'and unceasing grief in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed, separated from Christ, for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh.'  Coming down from the heights of gospel meditation, Paul’s heart was devastated by a burden for his fellow-Jews to experience the saving power of the gospel. His burden existed long before he started writing, but it was undoubtedly intensified by his rehearsal of gospel truths in Romans 5-8, a rehearsal which inevitably led his thoughts toward the plight of those outside of Christ."

"I am the LORD who sanctifies them"

Today's Bible reading Leviticus 21 and 22 continues with a long list of laws.  Some of them make sense and others seem very strange.  There is a phrase that is repeated over and over again that is huge.

This statement is "I am the LORD who sanctifies."  It is not following the law that saves.  It is God who sanctifies.  While these laws in Leviticus may seem strange and maybe even foolish.  God had reasons for giving these specific laws at that specific time.  Some of the laws had health reasons.  Some of the laws were meant to set the Israelites apart from the surrounding nations.  And some we just don't understand completely.

While God expects and commands our obedience to Him, it is not our works that save us, but rather faith in the God who sanctifies.

GOSPEL PRIMER:  A Cure for Distrust
The gospel changes my view of God’s commandments, in that it helps me to see the heart of the Person from whom those commandments come.
When I begin my train of thought with the gospel, I realize that if God loved me enough to sacrifice His Son’s life for me, then He must be guided by that same love when He speaks His commandments to me.
Viewing God’s commands and prohibitions in this light, I can see them for what they are:
friendly signposts from a heavenly Father who is seeking to love me through each directive, so that I might experience His very fullness forever.
